When we were small, my dad used to take us to the museum on a regular basis. The Cape Town Natural History museum, filled with whales suspended from the ceilings and dinosaurs that lined it's entrance gauntlet. He also used to take us mushroom hunting in Newlands forest, where along with our fungus finds, we would collect pine-cones and seeds that looked strange and wonderful. I think it is because of this, that my need to collect and display has been instilled. I have now confined my finds to one table- I call it my museum table. It is filled with unusual gifts that I have found on walks and travels, and that have somehow made their way back with me to meet their new home amongst my other treasures on my museum table.
