Today I was embraced by the World Cup Fever. I knew it would come, and I knew I would be full of spirit when it did, but I didn’t want to “pretend” that it had happened yet… so I waited …and today was the day I was knocked! I think what “kick started” it, was a phone call from my youngest sister, who, while at an Elna sewing class in Cavendish, had discovered that David Beckham would be enjoying a 10am pizza at Colcacchio ( as you do when you have a body people die for)!
This meant David Beckham would be right there in Cavendish, MY secret refuge, where I find my “Zen” Mr Beckham would be eating. Perhaps gazing at the Poetry window display, enjoying the boring bamboo flooring or LG LCD exhibition that frequents the bottom of the “Clinique-sash-pulling” glass lifts that allow you to spot people you know looking bored going up the escalators. He might take a wander into “The Space” laugh at their quirky gimics table, shout” Abrigado “ to the Vida E and then have a short browse through the Exclusive Books “editors picks” section! For me, this signified that the World Cup had arrived!
I’m not a religious Beckham fan, but I am a “Celeb” fan , I LOVE seeing them I “real” life, seeing how tall they really are… and I suddenly realized that this world Cup in our country was going to be full of celebs revealing their true heights!
I had a meeting in Sea Point and so I didn’t make a “B” ( for Beckham) line to Cavendish, instead I really enjoyed my drive, suddenly my soccer-senses where awake, any tour bus I saw, I imagined to be a team, the flags seemed extra bright and I took a real interest in people’s soccer shirts ( so many people wearing them!)The vuvuzelas, the flags the Stadium! They all seemed to be glowing in anticipation for our World Cup! I have officially put my wing-mirror “underpants” on ( the right way round) and I am now, too, a proud Bafana supporter!
Driving back to the “burbs” I decided to stop and take a picture of “Elzbiata's” window, I have been meaning to do so for a while, but today was the right day… to me she has outdone herself with our flag, turning it into a beautiful Soccer-Sensational- Gown, that , I think, will make even Victoria envious! It stands proud in the Rosenworth window, shining across the circle, to Melissas and proving that we do have the most diverse and fashionable flag the world has yet seen!
Love the beaded Vuvuzela too- really great window!
