This is a home in Melbourne, Australia, designed by Leeton Pointon Architects. It really appealed to me today because of it's simplicity. All of a sudden I'm feeling like I'm "not-on-top" of it all and so, the simple lines and clean interiors of the space , I felt reminded me of what I was missing so much.

I love the timber clad walls, and the concrete off-shutter that has obtained the timber panelling effect from the shuttering it was cast in- beautiful. The spiral staircase is also a beautiful sculptural element that is viewed from various points in the home.

Certain colors just exude a warm sense of elegance and sophistication, and navy is at the top of that list. Rich and dramatic, a dash or double dose of navy can give any room of the house a new chic lease on life. Here are eight elegant navy spaces with beautiful furniture, table decor, and more.

Dressed head to toe in luxurious navy, this bedroom uses the hue in a myriad of ways, such as paired with white in the bedding, as a backdrop behind a gold mirror, and in a geometric pattern on the floor.

Elegant navy spaces often incorporate a lot of white as well to help balance things out - here, white architectural details break up the navy blue walls for a symmetrical approach to design. A pair of wall sconces on either side of the framed fireplace helps carry out that balanced theme.

When working with a dramatic tone such as navy, a monochromatic complementary colour keeps the space airy - curtains hung higher than the window elongates the space, while the mixture of chairs in brown wood and white fabric also keep the home decor grounded. Gold tones also work well with such a rich, royal color. The brass chandelier adds just a bit more elegance to the room.

Little boy's rooms in navy blue are classic, however it's a pretty color for girls too, like in this bedroom, with a navy blue accent wall and bed. The matching lamps continue the circular shapes used throughout this bedroom.

Although the walls are covered entirely in navy blue, the numerous windows with sheer panels and silver curtain rods split up the boldness for a more serene effect. The funky zigzag rug showcases the visual appeal of these two complimentary colours.

Higher ceilings do mean more wall space, however the abundance of slanted ceilings in this great room gives the space plenty of brightness and light so that the navy blue walls can create all of the warmth in the home decor.

Indigo is a shade of navy that has a slight purple tinge to it, and in an airy loft it's a daring yet elegant choice as a backdrop for a streamlined space decked out in trendy modern furniture.

This galley kitchen is an elegant navy space - it may be narrow but it looks inviting and classic in rich blue and warm wood.

A little Penthouse in Vancouver, Canada never hurt anyone? This one's interiors are by the designer, Robert Bailey- I like his calm use of neutrals and fabrics- nothing too over-powering, maximising on space and light. I found this apartment "safe"- ample place to lounge and sit, no bright colours to disrupt you thoughts- just a neutral palette of textures... Happy home dreaming...

Greece, Sea, Sun- who cares... I am not going to take any credit for this post- I am confessing, all I have done is gone on a Greek "image-spree" through the work of "1KindDesign". Its rather dull here in Cape Town at the moment, lots of clouds- and I am tired- just that time of year- these images, though, have made me feel much better- how idyllic?! Home Dreaming in New Zealand

This is a space designed by the Architects, Crosson Clarke Carnachan. It is situated in Coromandel, New Zealand. I love it for its clever ideas and simplicity- it's a box on a hill with a breathtaking view and everything you need in one capsule that makes you feel like you have been transported into a clutter-free, simple zone of tranquillity. I love the deck that makes the house grow when it is open. The "lock-up-and-go" element of literally closing off is simple and neat- a little home in NZ would have been great for the Rugby- sigh *

Buenos Aires Home Dreaming

Last night, while on one of my "date-nights" with one of my favourite Interior Mags and a cup of tea, I came across this home in Buenos Aires. It is the piece of home-paradise belonging to the Architect and furniture designer, Alejandro Sticotti, and one can see his beautiful understanding of materials, light and space though the home he has designed. I love the furniture, of course all the timber, the greenery that envelopes the space and the honest, robust materials he has used, The planes if glass and volumes add height and drama, set off against the rustic simplicity of the timber cladding he has used.... ahhh a little home in Buenos Aires never hurt?

The space above right, with the long couch and gorgeous cushions looks so friendly and welcoming, while still maintaining elegance. The kitchen below is robust and invites one to cook and enjoy! The wall of greenery behind, is a strong part of the kitchens palette, invited into the space through the light and the huge windows! The natural materials add to the honesty of the space and the outdoors seem to mould into the palette of the interior effortlessly.

I loved these moody textures and colours from the Italian Marie Claire Casa, , recently. The spaces and the textures that have been set up for the shoot all have such depth and ambiance, and were just what I felt like getting lost in today. I am a huge fan of fabric swatches, especially deep grey and luxurious pieces of cloth, as well as antiques and reviving them in different ways- so these images have given me high and wonderful hopes for draping, covering and using my cupboard of swatches!

My Mom and Dad do pottery- and my dad has started making beautiful white glowing balls of porcelain. They seem to wilt in the heat of the Urn, and then once fired, and on a table, lit with a tea-light they radiate all the warmth that the Urn burned into them.
They have come to represent happiness for me- simple white jars of joy!

I want a whole lot of them on a long table outside one day, under a fairy-light tree, glowing, while I host a wonderful summers evening dinner party in my dream courtyard- Just Imagine!

A little apartment in Tel Aviv is inspiring me today- Yes, people live in between arches and stone work- the stuff we dream of- imagine, its like living in a beautiful old vault, with a gorgeous view of the Med! I feel like summer has finally arrived in Cape Town- and so I wanted an apartment to dream about today that had views of the sea, made me feel like exploring and was different- when I came across this apartment, with it's ethereal interiors, it needed to be added to my home-dreaming list.

Sea Urchin Treasures

I love the sea- I am a Pisces, and while I am always a little skeptical about "star-signs" the one, thing that has held true to me "star-sign-nature" is my love of the sea, water, swimming- and shells... I don't collect shells or have bottles of them next to my bath ( although I might look into that in my pure white dream beach-house one day), but when I find a simple elegant idea like this one, I fall in love.

I am dying for a Sea-Urchin pendent. Created by African Urchin. Their slogan is "Worn by people, made by the sea" and their idea is simple- capturing the beauty and delicate pattern of the sea Urchin, crafetd by nature over time in the deep blue, ( read their story here) through their process of dipping the shell into silver or gold- I love the simple silver urchin, although the rose gold has also caught my eye... and I am desperate to have one of these beautiful pieces around my neck for summer.

Every Monday when I sit down a my desk, I have this feeling that I just need one more day of weekend- it has nothing to do with not wanting the week to start, or work- but more to do with all the things I still wanted to "get done" on the weekend, that somehow didn't happen... and so when the Monday rat-race starts again, the little tasks that I didn't accomplish are added to the lists of the week- sigh- the ultimate "balance" that we all seek to achieve is that hard...

I think a few weeks in the images above and below will solve all- how idyllic? The white architecture against the blue sea, the sunshine...This is where want to be lost for days.

The images above are all from the Ikies Santorini Suites in Greece. I have never been to either Greece or Turkey- and I am wanting so badly to travel at the moment and these two destinations are high up on my list of dream destinations. The Images below are of the Macakizi resort in Turkey.

Well, it's Friday- this week has flown for me- last Sunday I had the blues, and I felt like I was never going to manage the entire week, and here we are- its the weekend. Cape Town is sparkling today, the sky is pure blue and the air is clean from the week's rain- I started my morning with a Hot Chocolate from Vida and I am so looking so forward to a relaxing, quiet weekend that rejuvenates, so on my list there are only a few important items!

The New Hout Bay Market

The New Hout Bay Market ...( In Hout bay, Cape Town) is where R and I spent the better half of our Saturday this weekend- and as usual, a place full of hustle and bustle, food and MCC made me very happy! We sat next to a roaring fire at a long wooden table and made frequent errands the the stalls all around us that offered authentic, wonderful food, filled with the love and enthusiasm of the sellers. There was beer on tap, MCC Sparkling wine, music, oysters, fresh bread and laughter, we had the most wonderful time. The market is situated in a huge old boat house, next to the waters edge and I loved the trusses and industrial huge shed that gave a real sense of authenticity and ease to the vibe. I spent time doodling people and the "goings-ons", simping my bubbly and nibbling on the wonderful offerings- It was a wonderful way to spend the day!

A Home in the Alps- is that too much to wish for on an average Monday morning in Cape Town? Yes, I would like high ceilings, a huge fire-place, logs and beautiful snow-white interiors... yes, I would like to jet over for a week or two, ski, drink Glu-wein and just be fabulous... sigh... Home Dreaming

Look at the beautiful floors in the image above, then the beautiful MiesVdR Barcelona chairs and modern table, mixed with the beautifully restored Louis XVI antique chairs and the contemporary light fittings... I find it too beautiful for words! The whole space has character while being simple.

An apartment in Barcelona I found while perusing the web (see the credits below). I feel that lately my choices of "Interior posts" have been rather opulent, I think this is inspired by the rainy weather, my love of antiques and then this obsession I have when old is mixed with new. I love gorgeous light floors, walls and furniture, mixed with heavier frames, artifacts and pieces- this apartment incorporates all these loves of mine beautifully.

I honestly could live in a space decorated like this, I find it mysterious and un-cluttered at the same time... wonderful!

I love the natural coloured rug here, mixed with the Timber floors, white walls and the art. Note the table and dining chairs in the background and its modern design, juxtaposed against the antique art and features.

A Magical Safari whirlwind

Tanda Tula is a tented Safari Camp situated in the Timbavati Private reserve next to the Kruger Park in South Africa, and a few weekends ago, R and I had the chance to jet off to Nelspruit airport from Cape Town, hire a car and spend two magical nights at the gorgeous TandaTula camp.

It was an absolute whirl-wind of safari dreaming and after a quick stay with my camera and my note-book, I felt as though we had been away for a week. We were treated to a beautiful luxury tent with an expansive view over a dried river bed, that was frequented by Elephants and Buffalo, just while we were sitting and enjoying a late afternoon coffee! We had a beautiful breakfast in the middle of the bush, and had game drives in the early morning and evening, where we saw an array of beautiful animals, including Rhino, Elephant and a family of Lions- it was really to special for words.

Simple Home Dreaming

Simple Interiors are my favourite, and when I found the images of this Bed and Breakfast in Marie Claire Italy I decided it needed to be my Monday Home Dreaming post (Just to get us all inspired for the week ahead). This is Casa atelier a Kelibia and I think its beautiful. The simple white palette and the the touches of "earthy' textures, make the spaces feel real. From the Architecture, to the choice of vases on display in the beautiful simple arches to the carpets on the floor, there is a clear and strong geometry in patterns and spaces. I would spend hours in the space above, looking at the view below- doesn't it just look idyllic!

These are some Monochrome Interiors that I found over the weekend on one of my favourites, the French Elle Decor. I Love the simplicity of colours- the dark, moody walls and the patches of opposing white that make the dark spaces seem light. One day- somewhere in my home, I'd like a dark walled room- just to be moody in.

Its the weekend and Im thrilled- this weekend Rian and I are going to Kruger Park for 2 nights! I am so excited- I love the Bush and after I even spend an hour listening t the night-sounds of the African Bush, I feel completely rejuvinated! We are staying at Tanda Tula and I will be taking lots and lots of pictures!

So this weekend I want to:

Pack light

Make each moment count from the moment the weekend starts

This is a home by the Architect Fernanda Marques, another Brazilian Architect, that has taken my breath away- I love this seamless space. Indoors and outdoors melt into one and outdoor "rooms" are livable, comfortable spaces! I love the materials too and the colour palettes, rustic and truthful materials, with a palette that is a mixture of light and dark timbers, cladding and textures balance and compliment each other. The strong incorporation of water is also something that I always appreciate and find so beautiful-

This is a home by the Brazilian architect, Arthur Casas.

I loved the space and ,once again, the timber, the floors and the walls in the same finish gives a seamless look and a feeling of continuous space. The huge doors that are like movable walls and make the exterior and interior merge into one beautiful space add a sense of grandeur in a simple, elegant fashion, and the tall trees in that lush exotic garden is magical. ...I suppose a little home in Brazil will always be used.

I'm really happy its the weekend, this week has felt long. Busy days and busy nights- and now I'm tired. This evening I have a birthday party and tomorrow I want to have a "me-morning" , magazines in bed, gym and maybe a pedicure. I'm looking forward to lots of sleep, keeping warm and being quiet. Breath out

This weekend I want to:

Celebrate a good friends birthday at &Union
Sleep late and be warm
Go to gym and not worry about the time
Have lunch with my family- a nice home cooked lunch

Madagascan Memories, Part 1

Madagascar has got me dreaming again. I've been yearning after the sun and the unknown- travelling and taking pictures of places that I have never seen and feeling completely inspired. Recently I started making my photos from my past few trips into printed book of images, my dream is to have a whole coffee table full of them one day. So, after far too long, here are some images that I took in Madagascar- real point and shoot images- but, going through them made me remember all the colour and island-magic that this part of Madagascar is so wonderful for. I have hundreds of pictures of doors and windows, all painted in different bright colours and set in their Island-style walls- Love them- so here is a taste of the colour, my next Island Installment should come around next week some time.

Breaths of Extensions

I love it when "New Architecture" is inserted into an old skin. We don't see these clever extensions here in South Africa as much as they can be seen popping though the architectural landscape of Europe, like breaths of fresh-air, inserted into the rows of old facades of buildings.

Here are two examples I came across recently while perusing through some of my magazines at home. I love the light and the glass and the juxtaposition of the old and the new, the light and the dark- beautiful.

I love the print above and I love what Blake L. is wearing below- that skirt is happy and flattering and different- she looks so casual and gorgeous- lets all wear long orange skirts and be fine!

Coser House By Marcio Kogan is on my home-dreaming list today. I love its simple lines, truthful and robust materials and it's enclosed courtyard that become a room in itself. Rooms open, through movable planes of glass and shutters onto this space, that gives light and freedom. Clever, simple, balanced design

Greek Architecture and interiors are often so beautiful because of the pure white exteriors and their Azure-Blue-Sea backdrops.This morning, I went onto Lana's blog and was completely inspired by her post today, which is a collection of images that portray soft blues. It made me feel like I needed a little Greek Villa for my "Home Dreaming List". I found this one (here) in Mykonos. This is supposed to be a few images of a beautiful home on the slopes of Greece that might make one dream of those sun-filled, lazy, holiday-days...

I Love the framed view here- simple and beautiful,

as well as the couches that are formed in the architecture

Simple, clean, white and stone colours- I love this.

A simple line

Fashion Illustrations, have always inspired me - I think its the simple, "haphazard" lines that portray a stance, fabric draping and "ambiance" that I have always found so amazing. One day I want a whole wall of my favourites, individually framed in a dressing room or en-suite bathroom. These are some that I have decided to post in order to "file" so that I don't lose them when one day I finally have that dressing room! I especially love the ones with the blotches of colour and simple white figures- beautiful!

After the beautiful weather in Cape Town this weekend, I wished for a courtyard, where I could potter and laze- These outdoor spaces are magical and just what I'd one day like my big glass doors to open on to. How absolutely beautiful is this dress?

Chocolate Mug of happiness by Some Kitchen Stories
Makes 1 large mug of happiness or 2 slightly less happy servings
Ingredients
•4 Tsp flour

•4 TBsp sugar
•1 egg
•3 TBsp cocoa powder
•3 TBsp Nutella
•3 TBsp milk
•3 TBsp vegetable oil

Directions
1.Combine all ingredients in a large coffee mug (or 2).
2.Whisk with fork until smooth.
3.Microwave on high for 1½– 3 minutes.
4.Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Or, halfway through baking time, drop in a dollop of peanut butter. (“Baking” time depends on microwave minutes. Ours took about 2 minutes.)

I'm dreaming of travelling again, its creeps up on me and then it subsides for a while, but while its in my mind, I peruse places that I'd love to go and "envision". Morocco has always been firmly on my "wish-list", since my visits to Seville in Spain, I have fallen in love with the Architecture that comes from Morocco. This is a hotel I found (here), the Riad P’tit Habibi, in Marrakech.

I love especially Moroccan interiors that are subdued earth tones, whites and oyster colours. Calming and exotic at the same time, and I can almost feel the dry-breeze in these images... Dream away...

Love the Persian carpet outdoors- an idea for home maybe?

I am a complete "collage" and "dream-board- addict", for me, they happen more in my head and in my note-nooks, but I have always collected images and swatches that I love and never really use- These "dream palletes" are just too inspiring not to post. The Huge Wardrobe Undertaking

I am having a wardrobe crisis- there is too much and too little- and although this might sound strange and not like a crisis at all, I assure you it is. I feel that I am missing the staples, and if I do have them, they are jumbled with the rest of the wardrobe "riff-raff" that hides their true beauty! I feel like I need a huge clean out, a re-assess, and I only wish I could make money from the items that I have hardly worn, just mentally grown ( and in some cases physically) out-off.

I found this little list on Matchbook mag, it has inspired me and I am going to start my Huge Wardrobe Undertaking ( HWU) this weekend, wish me luck!

Today I was tired, after a weekend of seeing my sister, enjoying Cape Town, catching up with friends and doing all the (flat-wheel) admin that one leaves for the weekend, I faced today wishing there was one more Sunday. I often start the week with the need in me to "tidy up", "declutter and cleanse"- this usually passes by Wednesday, but on Monday, the thought is there (isn't that the part that counts?)... In reference to my de-cluttered Monday dreams, here are two spaces that I think would suite my Monday aspirations perfectly

Rustic basic beautiful

I found the images of this home in a magazine I was pouring over a while ago, and stuck a post-it in the corner, because it made me stop turning the pages. I dont know if my dream apartment would look like this, but maybe if I had a spare refuge away from my real home where I could go to when I felt like being inspired and quiet I would chose it to be decorated differently.

Some of these images are of Kirsten Pereres' actual home in London's East End, and some are examples of her photography, both equally as whimsicle and warm. The Image below is of her home and when I saw it I got a pang in my heart reminding me that I need to start drawing again- so beautiful and just stuck on the wall like this,- special.

A Home for Winter

Its June the 21- Mid winter, here in Sunny South Africa. I dont know if its because of winters "subliminal advertising" from the date and knowledege that today is mid-winter, but, on my brief walk today from my parking bay to the office, I really felt like there was an icy chill in the air... no snow though, being Cape Town.

Out of respect to the day, I thought my Home Dreaming home today should be something "log-cabin-ish" with a contemporary twist. A little winter wonderland abode, designed by the Architect Ulla Koskinen.

Simple and warm. Love the floors and the concrete colour.

Road Trip Weekend

And it's Friday- really, one cant complain about a long week, yesterday was Youth Day in South Africa and so this week has been rather short. What I am excited about, is making the most of this weekend! So R and I are taking a little roadtrip... We are visting the beautiful Cederburg spending a night there and then meandering back down to Franschoek so I can get my "dose" of my favourite "little town-just-outside-Cape-Town"... so here is my Friday List, Im off to pack my bag and camera and enjoy this winter weekend!

This weekend I want to:

Take Loads of pictures ("have new eyes")
Enjoy the drive and take it slowely ( lots of pad-stal stops, my favourite)
Dress snug and warm in a huge jersey and boots
We are staying at KaggaKamma- very excited!
Be quiet and breath in the Fresh, cold, crisp Cederburg air
Visit the "Observatory" , apparently its a beautiful clear night tonight
Take a long walk in the mountains and breath!
Sip a glasss of Sparkling Wine in Franschoek
Visit a old wine-farm I havent visited before ( watch this space)
Eat well, laugh lots and talk about interesting things we find...

I found this house jumped out at me, not really for its "beauty" (I don't know how I feel about its Architecture) but for the green. It's like a huge tree house that has fallen from its tree and landed on the forest floor? All the timber and the lushness outside that is brought inside through the expansive glass- Its beautiful and mystical. The exterior of the house also seems to have taken on a kind of weathered look through its aging materials... Its different and so I thought it deserved a post!

Well, its the weekend, and I am breathing out and taking some time to be quiet. Its been one of those long weeks, where a lot has been accomplished- but I'm tired- and a quiet Friday night is exactly what I'm feeling like... sooooo this weekend on my list....

Have a quiet drink, somewhere cosy and friendly
Sleep in tomorrow and read something new
Enjoy the Newlands "Gees" that comes with the Big Game (BBulls vs the Stormers)
Have a lunch party with some girl-friends
Go for a walk ( the weather is looking pretty positive in Cape Town btw)...
I feel like that "pine-needle" smell...
Eat Sushi ( Craving since Monday)
Re-boot, re-assess and re-juvinate...

This is a Manhattan, New York Apartment, and in my head it's "a home for a boy".

I love the masculine materials and furniture - I think is super stylish and well put together. I love the monotone colour palette and then the touches of colour in feature areas. The beautiful black timber floors are also a bold statement that I like, especially since they are matt not glossy? Even with the masculine colours and feature furniture, what I love about this little space is that its still warm, don't you think?

Love the Marble finish in this shower area and the city-scape shower curtain as a quirky touch...

Beautiful chair love... ( he doesn't look half bad either....)

I want to try and mimic these this weekend- Friday list *- so simple and clever
